Match two of the SCVAL was held at Ewell Court with Epsom & Ewell Harriers hosting. This year the weather was much kinder to us than last year’s storm which delayed the men’s and women’s 3000m.
New to the ladies team we welcome Nina White, after a 20 year hiatus from track competition. Nina raced a hat-trick of running events in her debut meeting (200, 800 & 3000m)finishing each race at a respectful W35A third place. Caroline arrived, running across the car park in a pair of high heels and a floral dress, just in time for the start of the 800m; fortunately she did have time for a quick change into running kit before the gun went off. Yours truly won the 200m W35B with a time of 40.5 seconds, and she is still celebrating!
On the field Avelline Deighton was pleased to have pole vaulted 1.40m, with minimal training. Camilla threw a massive distance in the Discus & Hammer, compared to the other competitors, earning the team 7 points in both events. Thanks Camilla.
At the end of the evening we all just about had enough energy to run a 4 x 400m relay. Caroline started us off then the baton was passed to Avelline, Nicky Atkins with Nicki Murphy finishing. We finished in third place to Epsom & Ewell Harries and Wimbledon Hercules.
There were only six master athletes in the ladies team but on the night we successfully finished in second place, and are now in second position overall. The team consisted of (in no particular order) Nina White (200, 800,3000m), Nicky Atkins (200,800,3000m, relay),Caroline Jeffcote (800, 3000m, relay), Nicki Murphy (200m, Long Jump, Discus, Relay),Avelline Deighton (Pole Vault, Long Jump, relay), Camilla Thrush (Discus & Hammer).
The third SCVAL will be on Monday 12thJune at Kingsmeadow with K&P hosting.
Calling all ladies 5k parkrunners over the age of 35 years, 50 years and even 60 years. Why not get a PB – not in the park but on the track. There is a 5000m race on offer at the next SCVAL meeting and the K&P team desperately need more ladies to run this distance. To compete must be a fully paid up K&P member and EA membership paid.
